Co-founder of IOA Supports the Official Qualifying Tour of the LPGA’s Decision to Postpone Opening Events

LONGWOOD, Fla. – June 8, 2020 – The Symetra Tour – Road to the LPGA – has canceled two additional events in the 2020 competitive season as a precaution to preserve player safety during the COVID-19 crisis. Former chairman and CEO of IOA, John Ritenour, admires the organization’s commitment to player safety in the midst of an uncertain and ongoing pandemic.

Soon after the tour unveiled its modified 2020 schedule, which downsized the card from 20 to 16 events, the official qualifying tour of the LPGA decided to further adjust the competition’s calendar. The most recently canceled Symetra Tour events include:

  • The Prasco Charity Championship, scheduled for July 8–10 in Maineville, Ohio
  • The Danielle Downey Credit Union Classic, scheduled for July 16–19 in Rochester, New York

The cancellations effectively defer the 2020 Symetra Tour from restarting as planned. Both tournaments, however, are expected to return in 2021.

As the former chairman and CEO of IOA, which currently sponsors three Symetra Tour events, John Ritenour personally understands the ripple that COVID-19 has created throughout professional and amateur golf leagues. Two of the three IOA-sponsored Symetra Tour events have been postponed this year, with one successfully rescheduled and the other still awaiting reassignment.

“Nobody could have predicted just how many obstacles the golf community would face in 2020,” said John Ritenour. “The Symetra Tour team stepped up and made some tough decisions for the sake of players and their safety, and we could not be more supportive of their quick and careful response.”

Closely watching the release of COVID-related updates, the Symetra Tour team plans to resume the season at a later date in July. The next Symetra Tour event, the FireKeepers Casino Hotel Championship, is currently scheduled for July 24–26 in Battle Creek, Michigan.
