PHILADELPHIA – Philadelphia’s oldest original music venue, The Fire, will bring together musicians from chamber music, rock, opera, blues, classical piano, and voice as well as a spoken word from around the world when it hosts its 4th International World Unity Open Mic. This Play for Peace Concert will be streamed for free on YouTube on Monday, June 8 from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. (EST) (with Zoom meeting for audience and musicians following at 5 PM). Audience members may make donations to support these participating artists, all of whose jobs have been impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic.

This unique event will begin with a pre-recorded concert, made possible by syncing together performances from the individual quarantined band and solo musicians, as well as share some video, not previously seen from past performances. Throughout the show, viewers will be able to make donations through PayPal and also purchase musicians’ merchandise. The event will be hosted by renowned Philadelphia DJ and Grammy award-winning artist: da_BooBoo. 100% of the proceeds from the event will directly support the performers and the host.

Performing artists include Maestro Mauro Fabbri from Italy, Julien Van Mellaerts from New Zealand, Ludmila Kuzmina from Russia, Lorena Aranda from Peru, Agnese Pazienti from Italy, Dmitrij Polesciuk from Lithuania, Ken Watanabe from Japan, and David Petri from Italy. Costumes & Sets on the day will be handled by Yunjung Kang from South Korea.

Speaking about the many months of shows which had to be dropped, which ultimately inspired these virtual concerts, owner of The Fire, Karen Saillant, shares: “When so many shows were canceled due to the coronavirus pandemic, we were heartbroken. We knew we needed to find a new way to support these amazing artists. The idea just grew and grew from there to even encompass classic musical genres,” she said. “These weekly World Unity Fests are also special because they bring people together to enjoy musicians of other cultures while offering the special opportunity to actually meet some of these musicians in our Zoom Room after the concert. Their audiences develop friendships with those who love music from all over the world. It is part of what we always did in Philadelphia, through our rich and nurturing live music scene, and now we are taking it virtually.”

The full World Unity Open Mic Fest lineup includes • Mya Brown, singer-songwriter – Scotland • Nonkululeko ThunderRolling – Marsh Tladi, poet – South Africa • Dmytro Radzetskyi, guitarist for “Tea for Meat”, Ukraine • Dave Cope, singer-songwriter, USA • Carline Waugh, classical soprano, Jamaica • Alida Altemburg, Classical pianist – Italy • Dusty Ride, Blues – Transylvania Blues Nights, Romania • Excerpts from English composer, Philip Ashworth’s opera: “Errori” – premiered in Teatro comunale “Accademia degli Avvalorati”, Comune di Città Della Pieve, Italy- with opera singers from New Zealand, England, Peru, Japan, Lithuania, Russia and Italy and girl sopranos from USA.
