Elk Grove, CA – June 10, 2020 – Pleasant Grove High School in the Elk Grove Unified School District is one of the high schools chosen by the California Society of Anesthesiologists (CSA) and the national nonprofit Project Lead the Way (PLTW), to be apart of an exciting program where students get to participate in a biomedical sciences curriculum. Both organizations, CSA and PLTW, created the initiative to help students get hands-on experience with STEM subjects and work to further increase student’s interest and engagement with these kinds of topics.

Each year the organizations choose High Schools in California to implement their program at, allowing those students to have excellent learning opportunities. With Pleasant Grove High School being one of the chosen schools this year, students there will be able to get hands-on experience participating in the project-based science curriculum. The two organizations work together, with CSA providing program coordination and teacher training, and PLTW providing curriculum and coordination classroom presentations and field trips.

Students get to gain a real-life understanding of careers in STEM fields and what exactly they entail from actual professionals in those areas. Students gain valuable experience according to PLTW, which stated speaking of the program, “Whether discovering new cancer treatments or teaching healthy lifestyle choices to their communities, today’s biomedical science professionals are tackling big challenges to make the world a better place. PLTW Biomedical Science students are taking on these same real-world challenges – and they’re doing it before they even graduate from high school.”
