Robert Sahakyan is a digital marketer who came to the US with $200 and is now making six figures thanks to his skill set. He speaks 5 languages and has earned a scholarship in economics from the Department Of Education in Bulgaria, but has postponed his studies to pursue his entrepreneurial calling. Since then, Robert Sahakyan has successfully managed over a quarter-million dollars in advertising for local businesses, medical centers, law firms, popular apps, and eCommerce websites.

Robert Sahakyan describes himself as a professional customer acquisition specialist, with a focus on paid media. “I buy ads on Google, Facebook, Instagram, Linkedin, AdRoll, and a couple of other platforms, covering 99% of the paid traffic online. I’ve successfully managed over $100,000 in advertising just in the past 9 months alone and I really love what I do!”

Prior to working in digital marketing, Mr. Sahakyan was working 3 jobs, while in pursuit of the American Dream. Arriving in the United States with less than $200 to his name left him no other choice but to find work as a waiter, mornings and evenings while selling print ads to local businesses with whatever free time he had in between. From there, his love for selling and advertising really started to grow.

When asked what makes a perfect ad, Robert Sahakyan attributed the perfect ad to three core elements. The headline, ad copy and the creative. He believes that the creative is the most important element of any ad because it has the most real-estate on his audiences’ devices. Its job is to grab attention and prompt the target audience to read the ad copy. From there on, the ad copy has to address the objections and persuade individuals in a conversational way as to why they need this and how their life would be better, by having this product or service.

Some advice he gave to aspiring digital marketers is:

  1. “Pick what branch of digital marketing you’d like to specialize in since there are more than 8 different types.”
  1. “Change your Facebook Feed. What I mean is to join different groups and follow people who are specialists in what you’re trying to learn. The more posts you read, the more relative information you’ll have the better, and don’t forget to ask lots of questions!”
  1. “Watch a ton of how-to videos on YouTube. It’s your best friend and it’s free!”
  1. “Don’t fall for the “gurus”. There are people out there who take advantage of newbies and sell them courses with recycled, old information for a figure that usually ends with a 7. Don’t fall for it!”
  1. “Take free courses, like Facebook Blueprint, Moz SEO, or even HubSpot.”
  1. “Take an internship or start freelancing cheaply. Experience is the fastest way to learn. Be honest and upfront about your skills and experience, and charge accordingly.
