Life After Lockdown - The return of Grassroots Sports

Burleigh Travel are delighted to arrange new tours but want to thank there clients, here is a direct quote from the Owner Chris:
“Thank you to our amazing clients and tour organizers who understand what we have been through and want to work with us to provide their team with a sports tour that will create long lasting memories.”
What a few months it has been with the travel and tourism industry so heavily impacted from the outbreak of Covid-19. As a seasonal sports tour operator Burleigh Travel have been faced with the vast majority of our 2020 tours cancelled due to the restrictions, leaving over 12,000 people due to travel through April, May and June, to destinations within the UK, Europe and as far as Barbados and New Zealand being without their annual tour and uncertain about their travel plans.

Our team at Burleigh Travel are so incredibly passionate about sports tours and a lot of work went into the planning, so it was really devastating for this to hit us at the worst possible time. We also feel incredibly sorry for our clients who spent so much time fundraising for their trips, some of them for over a year so we have worked tirelessly to assist them transfer their trips as they wish to ensure their group were still able to experience a sports tour and to give them something to look forward to after the abrupt end to this year’s sporting seasons.

It has been well documented about the huge benefits of sport and that taking part in physical activity releases endorphins, which have a positive effect on our mental health and wellbeing. It has also been shown that being active can give people a focus, a sense of achievement, better sleep patterns and help build new relationships with others so now more than ever people need a sports tour.

In addition to the time spent arranging our tours, a huge expense was also incurred so the past few months have been a worry time indeed but we are very lucky to have a fantastic set of clients who have shown so much support to Burleigh Travel, with the majority of them happy to transfer their tour to either later this year or to 2021, meaning we are already looking very busy for next season.

The return of Rugby

With the impending return of the Gallagher Premiership on August 14th and the RFU releasing its return to play protocol for community clubs teams are now returning to training and we hope you are looking forward to getting back on the pitch.

Premiership clubs such as Bath are begging in to operate their popular summer training camps for junior players and things are beginning to return to normal with spectators looking likely to return to stadiums in November.

At Burleigh Travel we specialise in tours for many sports but it would be fair to say Rugby is at the heart of the company. The very first tours we arranged way back in 1993 were for our local schools and club rugby teams and we continue to provide rugby tours around the world and together with some of the best festivals across the UK.

Some of these festivals are in fact already showing limited availability due to so many teams transferring to next year’s event. If you are part of a mini or junior rugby team and want to enjoy an end of season tour, please take a look at some of the fantastic events we are running;

Be sure to plan your tour in plenty of time and ensure you don’t miss out:

Grassroots Cricket Returns

With the recent announcement from the ECB that grassroots cricket can commence return this weekend saw village and club cricket return and this combined with England’s first Test Match against the West Indies taking place Cricket is back on the sporting calendar meaning tours can now resume.

This announcement is great news for Charterhouse CC will be traveling to Norwich for their cricket tour in August shortly followed by St Fagins CC who will be heading overseas for their cricket tour to Holland where in addition to the cricket they will enjoy and explore the vibrant city of Amsterdam and experience the fantastic Dutch welcome while playing two local sides.

In October we will see Dorset Cricket Clubs over 50’s travel to Barbados to enjoy a 3 match 10-day tour to the Caribbean’s favourite island where they are likely to use their downtime to visit the islands famous Mount Gay rum factory and enjoy a leisurely catamaran cruise around the islands West Coast.

These will be our first tours since the lockdown came into effect and we hope this is the restart of sports tours, which we have all been looking forward to.

Football is back!

The FA have confirmed that the UK Government approved its plan for the return of outdoor grassroots football last week and as a result, the grassroots football community now has the opportunity to return to football and prepare for the start of the new season.

With travel restrictions easing, why not plan a tour to Holland or Spain, where you can take part in the Holland Easter Open or the Copa Santa Cup, two fantastic annual events who are excited to welcome British teams back to their events.

If tournaments aren’t your thing then not to worry, enjoy a long weekend in Valencia, or Amsterdam, or base your trip around one of our fun packed holiday parks and take on local opposition in a tour match. Whatever you want to achieve from your tour, we at Burleigh Travel will be able to provide an itinerary to suit.
