Philanthropic Lending Org to Launch Global Competition to Raise Income of Marginalized Populations
Faith-based micro-lending leader “Join the Journey” plans to ignite collaboration and tear down racial divides to blaze a path toward solving the world’s most elusive challenge – raising the income levels of nearly half the globe’s population living in poverty.

Arlington, Virginia – August 21, 2020 – Dubbed “For Future Flourishing”, the two-day virtual event, “Impactathon” – to be held Aug. 21-22 in partnership with San Francisco-based social impact consulting firm Innov8social – will challenge participants to imagine a brighter and more inclusive future by pitching sustainability concepts for prize money.

There are more than 150 registered participants spanning from Rwanda to Kenya to Haiti to Berkeley who will work together on the gaming platform Discord and compete for $2,000 to be awarded to the most innovative and impactful solutions.

The event will connect doers, thinkers, and social entrepreneurs from “First World” and developing countries to craft business concepts aimed at boosting local economies and increasing overall livelihood prospects for impoverished populations. JTJ recently developed a mobile app, “Spark”, that connects donors and borrowers for micro-financing, $100 loans, which assist entrepreneurs in the developing world expand their small shops.

Sponsors of “Impactathon” include Perfecto Coffee, Impact Hub Houston, Fokcus Mentoring, International Strategic Management, Will Power Warriors, Banj Haiti, and several others.

Additional details on the event and topics founder Adam Cole can comment on:

  • How “Join the Journey” is committing $2,000 of its own funds to the event to spur innovation. Judges will vote on the best pitches, “Shark Tank” style at the end of the event.
  • Organizers hope to “dismantle poverty” by addressing systemic causes of poverty while uniting participants on a path toward an inclusive future.
  • The event will pair people from all over the world in a virtual room using online tools such as the gaming platform Discord.
  • Adam can provide perspective on micro-finance, empowerment principles, inclusive mindsets, and the balance of giving back while serving his country.
  • Adam can expand on recommended digital finance solutions to uplift those in poverty.

During a recent press event, Adam Cole made these comments, “Impactathon reflects my own journey in working with others toward poverty solutions. It starts with the heart, which for me was literally broken to see people suffering but cannot stop there. Especially as we process systematic racism in America, we need events like this focused on united toward a common cause – and setting a path for an inclusive future.”

Join the Journey” has been primarily dedicated to Haiti since 2010, first with a tent village of earthquake victims and now in a mountain community called Canaan where most victims migrated. JTJ has provided funding for the community to build a church, now in the final stages. Operating since 2010, the organization has distributed 25,000 pounds of food, 2,000 pounds of school supplies, 3,500 Christmas toys, and impacted 1,000 families through micro loans to vulnerable populations in Peru, Haiti, Cameroon, Philippines, and most recently Zambia.
