BRASS Avalanche Offers Avalanche Safety Tutorial for the Coming Winter Ski Season

Park City, Utah – The BRASS Avalanche Safety Foundation, a nonprofit advocacy and education organization dedicated to increasing education and avalanche awareness, is offering a free online educational tutorial for skiers and snowboarders to prepare for the new season.

BRASS Avalanche is committed to reducing the number of injuries and deaths caused to skiers and snowboarders who go off-piste, or off groomed ski runs, or those visiting areas at risk of avalanche by delivering its Avalanche Safety Online program free of charge. The BRASS Avalanche Safety Foundation, formed after the deaths of two rising U.S. Ski Team stars in 2015, is establishing a strong reputation as a leader in avalanche safety advocacy.

The BRASS Avalanche Safety Online was originally developed by the Utah Avalanche Center and BRASS as required education for U.S. Ski Team athletes and coaches.

“Education is available from many sources but BRASS wanted to ensure that any skier or snowboarder could avail themselves of the same education that top skiers and snowboarders in American were receiving through Avalanche Safety Online,” said BRASS Chairman Steve Berlack. “Off Piste Skiing and all winter snow sports will always involve an element of risk, but those risks can be minimized by following specific rules and safety procedures.”

The Bryce and Ronnie Athlete Snow Safety Foundation (BRASS) was born out of the tragic avalanche deaths of U.S. Ski Team athletes Ronnie Berlack and Bryce Astle to create a legacy of changes in the culture of avalanche safety. Its mission is to lobby for the evolution of snow safety systems and to advocate for greater penetration of avalanche education. It works closely with avalanche industry organizations in the USA and around the world. The BRASS Avalanche Safety Foundation is a 501(c)3 non-profit relying entirely on donations from passionate private and commercial supporters.
