Despite Ghana’s remarkable growth and development since her independence, certain regions of the country still have challenges of access to clean and sustainable drinking water, but not anymore.

Thanks to a joint project by Blue Gold Works BGW and ImpactAgri, people in certain parts of Ghana can now have clean and sustainable drinking water. The project championed by MBA candidates of IMD, Switzerland’s leading business school, will utilize a unique plant-based water filtration technology that relies on Moringa seedcake powder.

BGW utilizes moringa seed cake powder (MOSCP), a natural coagulant and water purifying compound, traditionally used to purify water effectively naturally. The company has now invited like-minded investors, businesses, and entrepreneurs to join hands in implementing its innovative natural drinking water filtration systems. The partnership will target this development towards empowering local communities by generating income. Different water filtration and distribution systems for clean drinking water will also come out of this project.

Many residents in the Greater Accra Region of Ghana do not have access to potable water, driving up waterborne illnesses and diseases. Recognizing the problem, Blue Gold Works was able to put a scheme together to tackle the problem. Over the last two years, the company has proudly donated its Moringa seedcake powder filters to several families in Africa, after working with lab experts to innovate and produce a locally made plant-based water purifier. BGW Moringa water purifier works without electricity and can provide enough drinking water for two households daily. BGW waterworks system provides clean drinking water for 8,000 people daily.

BGW mega water filtration project, along with ImpactAgri, is engaging MBA students from Africa, Latin America, and Europe to come together in the coming weeks. This group of students will work with mining companies to improve the water crisis in parts of Ghana. Professor Vanina Farber (the elea Chair for Social Innovation at IMD business school) will lead the student team.

ImpactAgri is the other fantastic company that completes this partnership to bring clean water to parts of Ghana. This agricultural development company works with local farmers to develop commercial and environmentally friendly agribusinesses on a large scale. Away from its philanthropic involvement, BGW is very much into Moringa planting and processing to produce premium organic honey, oils, and skincare products for the cosmetic industry.

BGW’s foray into developing products from Moringa has provided local African farmers with a steady income. Impact sustained by the company’s 5-year plan to return over $9 million to the African farming community. BGW keeps its activities environmentally sustainable by planting over 600 hectares of Moringa trees, isolating 44 million pounds of CO2 per year.

BGW regional director, Alexander Omijeh, is confident that the partnership between Blue Gold Works, Impact Agri, and the IMB MBA candidates will significantly impact the communities. The project begins with the launch of a crowdfunding campaign. Funds raised will be put towards upgrading BGW 2.0 Waterworks to full capacity, which will serve 8,000 residents’ safe water daily. BGW will also use funds for moringa farming and provide processing inputs for sponsored farmers in Nigeria, Zimbabwe, South Africa, Ghana and Sierra Leone. Funds from the capital raised will be used in research and development to establish regional engineering/manufacturing hubs. Management will foster BGW’s growth by tapping into the $6 Billion-dollar moringa cosmetic market and combining its waterpreneurship scheme. Blue Gold Works projects a business revenue of over $25 million by 2030, including establishing a water supply chain that will provide clean water to more than 25 million people for all of Africa.
