Naperville Native Releases New Children’s Picture Book: Mommy, Am I? To Teach About Self-love After Her Own Loss

07:27 2020

Naperville, IL – November 12, 2020 – After nearly losing her life during childbirth, coupled with an emergency hysterectomy that took away her ability to have more children, Atusa Freyer, Director of Marketing at Naperville Country Club, set out to fulfill her lifelong dream of self-publishing a children’s book. MOMMY, AM I? was written 3 months after the birth of her daughter and subtly teaches the lesson of learning to love all that makes you different in a hilarious and light-hearted way.

ABOUT THE BOOK:

At the zoo with his mom, little Theo and his sister Lilly notice strange things happening after every animal they pass by. Theo sees his hands are turning into a lion’s paws, then a monkey’s arms… “I’m not an animal, Mommy, am I?”

This lyrical picture book comes to life when the imaginary world and the real world become one. The more animals Theo sees at the zoo, the stronger the comparisons become. Capturing the wild imagination of a child who doesn’t know what is real from what is pretend, is Theo a little boy or really an animal in the end?

The childhood nostalgia-inducing story celebrates the idea of loving your physical differences while nurturing a child’s sense of wonder and imagination. MOMMY, AM I? will be available for pre-order beginning December 1st, 2020 through Atusa’s Author Website: www.atusawritesandrhymes.com and soon to be on Amazon. Those who purchase a copy in the first week of December will have the chance to win a family season pass to their local zoo (one entry for each book purchased). MOMMY, AM I? is a rhyming picture book for children ages 0-8.

REVIEWS ARE IN!

“I love the idea of this story. Using different parts of the animal to represent different aspects of Theo really drives home that kids’ unique qualities can help guide them through life. Reading it aloud was a joy. Great job with creating interesting rhymes too! The ending made me tear up a bit (side note: I recently lost my mom) because even as we get older, we will always be our parents’ kids.” – J. Zimmerer

“The message of this book is absolutely incredible, and one that I think every child needs to hear. It gives children the ability to see themselves in the best of everything around them and draw parallels of their strengths to those of the things, people, and animals around them. Great story and an even better message.” – Y. Peyjam
