First Black women to travel to every country pens inspiring book based on her 40 year journey

Malibu, California – November 17, 2020 – Airports are closed. Millions of flights have been cancelled. Borders are locked down. The tourism industry is in a downward spiral. It’s not an ideal environment for releasing a travel book. But Woni Spotts, the first Black woman to travel to every country and continent, has never been one to shy away from a challenge.

Spotts’ expedition began in The Bahamas in the late 1970’s as part of a documentary. Passing Through would take the fifteen-year-old daughter of Hollywood entertainers around the globe in four years. The journey was cut short in 1982 when the documentary’s noted producer and author, Nolan Davis, died. Years later, Spotts embarked on an international tour that would take her to places on every tourist’s top 10 list. As the first Black woman to travel to every country and continent, her accomplishment inspires, while remaining elusive. Spotts’ newly released book, Letters from Everywhere: The true story of Woni Spotts’ historic travels to every country and continent, offers rare insights into travel. She explores what brings us together and what makes us unique.

“This year has been particularly difficult for travellers,” explains Spotts. “People with wanderlust find themselves armchair travelling instead. They’re binging on travel shows, magazines and tour guides. In a way, it’s an ideal time for my book to come out. Unlike other travel-based memoirs, the book isn’t focused on one country or one type of journey. Though it was written in one year, the book is the culmination of 40 years of journaling while travelling. Letters from Everywhere is a memoir wrapped in a poetic love letter to the world, with historical highlights from near and far. There are thousands of destinations in the directory and art on every page. Writing the book has allowed me to share my private collection of ideas for smooth sailing, riding, and flying.”

Releasing the book in 2020 is particularly poignant for Spotts.

“This tumultuous year has brought being Black in America into sharp focus. It’s also a time to celebrate Black achievement in academia, sports, politics, literature, and the arts. Travel changes your perspective, it broadens your world view, and it inspires dreams. I want to share the feeling of adventure and guide others interested in travel.”

Woni Spotts’ book, Letters from Everywhere: The true story of Woni Spotts’ historic travels to every country and continent, is now available on Amazon and is free for Kindle Unlimited users.
