A Collection of Chinese Films at the Third HIIFF Enkindles the Strength of Chinese-Language Cinema

The entire film program line-up of the Third Hainan Island International Film Festival (HIIFF) has been announced. The inclusion of Chinese language films in the HIIFF official line-up has drawn extensive anticipation from audiences.

In addition to our commitment to excellent film works worldwide, HIIFF equally values cinematic creations that originate from our homeland. We hope that the exhibition of high-quality Chinese-language films will present creators’ diversified explorations in narrative genres and concerns for distinct subject matters. By doing so, we aspire to nurture the current growth of contemporary Chinese cinema.

In the official line-up, several Chinese-language films are worth noting. Wuhai (乌海) by director ZHOU Ziyang and Love Song 1980 (恋曲1980) by director MEI Feng are the 2020 HIIFF officially recommended dramatic features. The Organizing Committee has also announced Love Song 1980 as the Opening Film for the 2020 HIIFF. Wuhai focuses on the conditions of reality, while Love Song 1980 looks back at historical contexts, yet both of these films exude filmmakers’ crucial humanistic concerns.

Besides, The Six (六人:泰坦尼克号上的中国幸存者) is the 2020 HIIFF officially recommended documentary feature film. The film reviews the historical stories of RMS Titanic through the documentary lens, enriching the genre coverage of Chinese-language films for the 2020 HIIFF.

Among the Third HIIFF’s Out-of-Competition screening sections, the China Vista section is dedicated to screening Chinese-language cinema. Six films are curated for the exhibition, including Feelings to Tell (归去来兮) by director LI Wen, Hot Soup (热汤) by director ZHANG Ming, How Deep Is Your Love (一意孤行) by director GUO Junli, Tracing Her Shadow (又见奈良) by director PENG Fei, Striding Into the Wind (野马分鬃) by director WEI Shujun, and Being Mortal (来处是归途) by director LIU Ze. Each featuring a unique subject, these films reciprocates between cinematic arts and reality.
