Retravision offers their best Boxing Day Sales Ever

With Black Friday in the rearview mirror, many shoppers are now setting their sights on the final major shopping event of the year, the Boxing Day sales. Kicking off on the 26th of December, right after Christmas, Boxing Day has always traditionally been the biggest day on the nation’s retail calendar.

It’s a holiday thought to have been derived from the old custom of providing ‘Christmas Boxes’ to workers, which has evolved into a modern day shopping bonanza. It follows behind Black Friday, a relatively recent import from the United States which has rapidly gained popularity in Australia.

Despite a changing retail landscape and evolving shopping habits, the Boxing Day sales are expected to be huge. Even in the face of the pandemic, savings and deals are set to be better than ever. This year, retailers have already started to prepare for the day and are anticipating strong demand, following off the back of a busy pre-Christmas shopping period and a recovery of the GDP.

“We’re seeing better deals year on year for Boxing Day – the competition between retailers is fierce.” Retravision General Manager, Glen Mortimer said today.

“This year will be our biggest yet.” He said of the electrical megastore’s planned Boxing Day sale.

It’s a day that has long been one of Australia’s favourite shopping traditions, but this year will likely look a little different. Despite in-store shopping slowly returning to pre-COVID levels, retailers are keen to remain conscious of social distancing and avoiding the large crowds from previous years. This year, it’s likely that online deals and contactless shopping options will be a key focus for retailers. For many years now deals and discounts have also extended well beyond the 26th of December, a trend which is no doubt set to continue this year to help shoppers avoid the rush.

Even with this in mind, retailers like Retravision are expecting big turnouts.

“It’s always a big event, but we think this will eclipse anything we’ve seen before,” said Glen Mortimer.

After a particularly tough year, many people are looking forward to indulging in the excitement of Australia’s favourite shopping event. The day itself is a national holiday, and the art of bagging the best deal on the day is itself a beloved national past-time, just like the Boxing Day test match.
