Grand Junction Farmer-Florist Sydney Garvey, of Garvey’s Gardens LLC, Represented Colorado on the Certified American Grown Floral Design Team at the 2024 First Lady’s Luncheon
Flower farmer and owner of Grand Junction, Colorado’s Flowers by Garvey’s Gardens Sydney Garvey was recently among just 20 floral designers from across the United States who were chosen for the First Lady’s Luncheon as part of Certified American Grown, led by Jennifer Reed (Jennifer Designs) and Kelly Shore (Petals by the Shore and The Floral Source).

The 2024 Certified American Grown Design team spent three days processing 20,000 stems of flowers from Certified American Grown farms and arranged them into centerpieces, photo opportunities, and a grand ballroom installation. Heather Obernolte, spouse of Representative Jay Obernolte (California), was the First Lady’s Luncheon Chair this year and created the theme of this event to include blues, whites, and yellows throughout.
“It was an absolute honor to be chosen to be on the Certified American Grown Design Team this year, as one of only 20 designers from across the country, and the only one from Colorado,” said Garvey. “I can’t thank our lead designer, Jennifer Reed, and Kelly Shore enough for this opportunity and am so happy to have met many new flower friends on this journey who wholeheartedly support American-Grown flowers as much as I do!”
Statistics from Certified American Grown cite that 74% of consumers don’t know where their florals come from but that 65% would prefer American grown if given the opportunity.
